This framing of burnout as the erosion of continuty rather than a dramatic crash is spot on. The idea that Olive functions as a living notificaton when attention starts fragmenting is such a great observation. I've expereinced that same third-culture loneliness where none of the contexts fully see you, and it really does require something outside schedules and timezones to feel real agian.
Thank you so much for writing this funnily enough yesterday after out call I experienced an erosion of continuity or a burnout or a crash that lasted 24 hours and at the time I thought damn if I had a companion here I know it wont happen like this. Glad you got the continuity. Love your writing man :))
Please tell Olive 'thank you' and give him a belly rub.
It has been great reading from you again. Did you ever ask the 6 people why they did not respond to your letter? I am curious to know why you chose them as recipients.
Great write-up, a relationship is key, both for humans and pets. But the care we have for them can't be overemphasised. I still prefer Dogs to cats, in my opinion, though.
Another classic, Joel, I will share this far and wide! My anchor has been a daily plank with its length recorded on a post-it note that also includes what I'm thankful for on that day.
I look forward to meeting Olive and seeing your architect lamp!
Ah, too kind! Wait that’s a killer idea too. I used to have a “wall of pins” — similar to your plank — but I’ve not replaced it since I moved into my new place.

Thank you for reading + for the notes. How have you managed to fill that ‘gap’ yourself?
The slow erosion burnout. God I hate it and love how simply you put it.
I also hate how simply it reads. lol. But grateful to have some concept of it.

I’m proud of you for still making it through. Thank you for reading❤️.

Will do! I never asked them, but we did speak afterwards. (About different things though.)
Most of them were long-time friends (10+ years) with whom I’d shared many important moments with.

Thank you for reading😊. You’ll be the first to know if I get a dog in the future!
